I Believe in the Power of Music

I was once told that music vex your spirit. "Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can't," by Johnny Depp. Music is a guideline to some, in life. Without music my life would be incomplete. Music binds us together as one.

Music makes me emotional. If I listen to certain music, if it is sad I cry, if it is cheerful, I am cheerful. Music enhances me within. Music understands me. I will sit and watch a commercial about feeding Africa, I then turn my focus toward the music. The music in the commercial connects me emotionally to feel what they are going through. Then, another ad comes on and the instrumental tune makes me happy (Pillow Pet commercial).

Music makes me think a certain way. Listening to all the lyrics, music make me use my vivid imagination to create a picture. Music unleashes my math skills so I can accelerate in my class. Music strengths my vocabulary, so I may become more fluent in English. Music test my physiological thinking when I am watching a movie.

Music makes me act a certain way, rather it is good or bad. Thinking of a commonly heard song, "Naughty or Nice," when children sing this, it makes them believe that Santa Claus knows. Therefore, children start to behave a certain way. "I'm Encourage" is a song that makes me behave a certain. This song tell me to be encourage and never give up!

Music is real and it does come to life. It is how you interpret it. Each and every day I find myself humming, tapping, or singing a rhythm. Music is my life and my passion. I love to explore each day, with something more challenging every time. Music is the rhythm of my life; it defines my lifestyle and my choices I make. Let music fill inside you as it do for me. Music is life, never forget.

Million Dollar Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 large tub of cool whip
  • 1 can of Eagle Brand milk
  • 1 small can of pineapple (crushed)
  • 1 can of pecans
  • 1 Graham cracker crust
  • cherries and coconut (optional)

Mix all ingredients. Poor into graham cracker crust. Refrigerate for about two hours. Then serve.

Preparation:

In a large bowl mix cool whip, eagle brand milk, can of crushed pineapples, and pecans. Then, gently poor into graham cracker crust. Lastly, refrigerate.

Its important that when you finish mixing t he ingredients that you refrigerate. Putting it in the refrigerator allows the whip cream to become a more "solid" type to act as a pie. I remember how me and my mom will make this together and distribute them among our family.

"Oh boy! I can't wait to taste the pie," stated Hannah and Jamie.

I like helping my mom make this Million Dollar Pie. It has no specific smell, its the taste that keeps you taste buds singing, craving for more.

When the pie is ready we all  gather around the table to eat the Million Dollar Pie. My family consist of five, and we all are able to feed from the pie. Usually my dad drops out because he does not like a lot of desert. "Alright! I'm through now, y'all enjoy!"

"Are you sure dad?" states the rest of the family.

"Yes!" Dad says.

When our dad drops out it is usually finished by my mom, sisters, and myself.

Then, after we eat me and my sisters go with my mom to deliver pies to relatives and neighbors. Are family and neighbors are thrilled when they receive the pie. Everyone is happy!

After a hard days work we are all tired, but we work together to clean the kitchen. Soon we all relax and are very pleased.

Respect

Respect

Reminisce with me a time when you lost someone you loved so dearly; it affects how you feel now does it not? I read a story with the title of “A Handsome Drowned Man” this story talks about how this complete stranger was spotted onto shore and was given a proper burial.  I can relate to this story because I feel that you have to earn respect to have respect given, you have to do respectful things, and this makes me feel that I am respected just the same.

How do you earn respect for it to be given? In A Handsome Drowned Man a absolute stranger was showered with such high respect. Two statements from the story is evidence like: they washed him up, and the sowed him some clothing because he was much larger any man they have seen. They then know that he was an Esteban. I can associate this to a well respected individual. If someone is well respect I would be willing to do the same thing. As I read in the story the people want him to have a decent death with dignity, and the men where honored to carry him on their shoulders.

In order to help receive greater respect for yourself, you have to accomplish thoughtful acts. How you do respectful things you might ask? Well, you should show chivalry among each other. For example, if someone is down, cheer them up even if it is a stranger. Do helpful things like: if someone drops their things help them pick it up. Another example could be: if you know about someone is being bullied, you should help put a stop to bulling because bullying does not always end well.

This story makes me feel confident that people will respect my death just the same as they did Esteban’s. Because I am the type of person that tries to treat everyone the same, and make sure they are okay. I may not be the brightest crayon but I sure do try to shine. Many people may not understand me because I am different, I try not to “fit it;” therefore, I am the type of the individual who tries to be my own.

A Handsome Drowned Man by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a excellent story it teaches the value of respect. I have not seen any great respect like that until I have read this story. This story encourages me and makes me think about how I treat others.  Respect is given by how much you earned it, you have to do respectful things, and I feel that I am respected just like Esteban.

Zach David Sobiech

Amelia Butler

Title: Zach David Sobiech

PRE AP ENG 10: ThINK 1

Each and every day we all come across many different types of people not knowing what they could be suffering from. Even though some may be perfectly fine, you still do not know their situation. Sometimes these same people is someone’s child, family member (auntie/uncle, cousin, and sister/brother), or friend and they could be dying from a disease or cancerous infection. If you were aware of their situation you would probably feel different and have a different opinion of them. In some cases people knowing about their sickness will take advantage of those types of people and try to misuse them. I did some research and the story of this young man name Zach Sobiech struck a nerve. I learn about his story on this video, http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/bestoftv/2013/05/25/exp-clouds-zach-sobiech.cnn . Zach had such a wonderful spirited heart, but sadly it all came to an end. His story is a sad but yet inspirational tragedy. Zach is a young 18 year old boy that was diagnosis with a type of cancer known as osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is a cancerous bone tumor. This young man had to go through ten surgeries and twenty chemotherapy sessions. Zach formed a band; he has inspired me, and is a special person that I will always remember.
Zach formed a band with his friend, Sammy Brown. The name of the band was A Firm Handshake.  He also wrote this beautiful song, “Clouds.” This song is so touching, it describes how his time is coming to an end “it won’t be long now,” and he’ll go “up, up, up in the clouds,” Zach Sobiech. However, he wrote this song because he was told he had only weeks to live and he felt this song will help his family cope over his death. I believe this was very thoughtful of him, showing his concern for his family and friends.
After finding out about Zach and his issue, it has been such an inspiration to me. Also I feel that Zach and me are alike in some ways. Like Zach I care about others feelings more than my own and making others happy. I commend Zach for what he has done. He has inspired me to share his story, so everyone can see that many people are suffering and you just do not know it. However, what inspired me the most about Zach is his strength, bravery, and courage he had at a time like this. It would have been such an honor to have met Zach; his bravery inspires me to keep moving forward always.
Zach knowingly as he was dying, stated in the video, was concerned about others  more than himself. I really enjoyed how in many parts of the video Zach was continuously smiling. Zach Sobiech has truly been a blessing to not only me, but to the world also. Zach David Sobiech was born on May 3, 1995 sadly he passed on May 20, 2013. “You don’t have to find out you’re dying to start living,” quote by Zach Sobiech. R.I.P (Rest in Peace) Zach “Gone but NEVER forgotten,” by the unknown.
I truly wish I could have met Zach. He is gone to a better place now, looking over all of us now. I will cherish Zach in my heart. He shows us that we should take advantage of the time now that we have with family and friends because you never know what may come up.
