Respect

Respect

Reminisce with me a time when you lost someone you loved so dearly; it affects how you feel now does it not? I read a story with the title of “A Handsome Drowned Man” this story talks about how this complete stranger was spotted onto shore and was given a proper burial.  I can relate to this story because I feel that you have to earn respect to have respect given, you have to do respectful things, and this makes me feel that I am respected just the same.

How do you earn respect for it to be given? In A Handsome Drowned Man a absolute stranger was showered with such high respect. Two statements from the story is evidence like: they washed him up, and the sowed him some clothing because he was much larger any man they have seen. They then know that he was an Esteban. I can associate this to a well respected individual. If someone is well respect I would be willing to do the same thing. As I read in the story the people want him to have a decent death with dignity, and the men where honored to carry him on their shoulders.

In order to help receive greater respect for yourself, you have to accomplish thoughtful acts. How you do respectful things you might ask? Well, you should show chivalry among each other. For example, if someone is down, cheer them up even if it is a stranger. Do helpful things like: if someone drops their things help them pick it up. Another example could be: if you know about someone is being bullied, you should help put a stop to bulling because bullying does not always end well.

This story makes me feel confident that people will respect my death just the same as they did Esteban’s. Because I am the type of person that tries to treat everyone the same, and make sure they are okay. I may not be the brightest crayon but I sure do try to shine. Many people may not understand me because I am different, I try not to “fit it;” therefore, I am the type of the individual who tries to be my own.

A Handsome Drowned Man by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a excellent story it teaches the value of respect. I have not seen any great respect like that until I have read this story. This story encourages me and makes me think about how I treat others.  Respect is given by how much you earned it, you have to do respectful things, and I feel that I am respected just like Esteban.

  2. I completely agree with what you are saying. You have to earn respect. If you respect me I will respect you, but do I have to respect people who do not respect me? You got me thinking about respect and who deserves it.
